Artist Statement
I am an artist. I create art to explore emotions and experiences through visual storytelling. I am inspired by artists like Johfra Bosschart, Francisco Goya, and Zdzisław Beksiński who weaved aspects of religion, mythology, and psychology into their paintings. The more I learn about art the more I strive to capture the visual storytelling abilities of the great artists in the world. I find profound joy learning the different processes and forms of art making. There is so much depth in each medium and a large breadth of mediums to explore. I am mostly drawn to working with media such as painting and drawing.Whenever I see, hear, or feel anything impactful to me I try to process that experience as a mental composition. Creating a scene and tweaking the composition and elements in it is exorcising for me. It is a way for me to express my feelings about something without using words. One thing that is central to my work is the human figure. The figure has so much potential as a dynamic entity to communicate emotions. To me it is the most powerful symbol everyone can relate to. The expression of the body transcends all barriers of culture, language, time, and geography. The artists that inspire me come from all over the world, from different eras, and produce art with different styles but they are all able to elicit engagement in their subjects through art in the same. My goal is to achieve that level of storytelling with my own work. CV
